What is NOTA??? The Right to Reject....

A lot of us were so very happy when the verdict for Right to reject All candidates was passed by the apex bench of the Honorable Supreme Court of India; but the big question is, what does it mean for us the voters???

Basically it gives us a button called NOTA or None of The Above, when we go in to vote, which was previously not there, instead if you wanted to reject all candidates you were supposed to go to the presiding officer of the polling booth and register the same with him in a register, but it was not exercised ever I think as mostly people were unaware of any such option and the ones who knew preferred not to go for Voting at all.

Even now it is not very clear whether the NOTA button would have any relevance or not as the courts have not yet indicated what in the case of more votes falling for NOTA than any other candidate, logically all the candidates should be disqualified and re-election should happen in the particular constituency. As of now it is not clear whether any such thing will happen or not or my the court is also looking forward to what is the kind of response that people will have towards such an option.

The overall situation seems to hanging in balance and say if a situation comes up where there is a case of NOTA getting the highest number of votes may the courts will have to intervene. For the time being we should be happy to have such an option.

This might actually be a reason for a lot of people who have always thought of skipping the voting process as none of the candidates are worth a vote. Hopefully it will result in higher voter turnouts at least for the first set of elections when the option is made live by the election commission.

Should I Vote.... Or Should I Crib...

We all end up saying one thing again and again that it is the failure of the government and what can we normal citizens do about it. Well to be frank we the citizens can do a lot of things, to start with we can elect the political brass of the country.

Now a lot of you will think that one more preacher is here to ask us to vote, but what the hell will one vote do for the country. So I will just narrate a simple story about the constituency where I cast my vote. The current MLA from the area had no chance of winning the elections and had more or less given up on the seat, and the contestant say Mr. Politician was all lined up to win. The chances of his win were so high that most of the people supporting him did not even bother to vote and the result he lost by a mere 6000 odd votes, than people talked and forgot as to how he lost. He lost because his supporters were mostly the educated middle class people and for them going out to vote seemed like an activity with no results and thus they said any which way Mr. Politician is all set to win why waste my Holiday to go out and Vote.

It is not the case with only one good politician but most of them, as the people who are capable of selected the right candidate do not want to vote want as it seems to be hassle to go out and stand in the line and cast the ballot to them. But have you ever thought that this hassle of say an hour makes a huge impact on things are going to be handled in the future.

But what to say we are educated and if we all vote and elect the right candidate would it be a kill joy of sorts, we would not have the topics for discussions on coffee table with friends and relatives and more than that whom would we blame for our shortcomings, our lack of ownership, our lack of conviction blah blah bah...

People you need to get up and decide what do you want to do, do you want hot discussion topics or do you want to kill the discussion and make an impact right away....

The Choice is Yours... Vote and make a difference.....

The Madhya Pradesh Saga....

The place that is advertised as the "Hindustan Ka Dil" is truly not a real reflection of the Indian political scenario. It is one state which has been dominated by two parties only for a long time now and for the forseeable future it seems to be riding on the same path, regional parties have not been able to make any mark in MP {Madhya Pradesh}, it seems that MP has never had any localised issues that have balooned up enough to give rise to a political outbreak resulting MP to convert in a playfield for multiple parties driven by personal agendas.

There has been a a lot of talk about as to how well the BJP led MP government has performed, me not very sure of the same, but based on personal experiences things do not seem very rosy. The first indication is the roads, anyone who had traveled to MP of late by road will tell you that the indication that you have entered Madhya Pradesh is bad roads. The moment you get on to a broken stretch of Highway, while travelling towards MP you can be sure that you have entered the state.

The state has been progressive that is what I have heard, but the article in Times of India dated 23rd October, 2011. states that MP is the lowest in terms of Human Development Index. MP government talks of development a lot but has it really happened?

I am not comparing but still Gujrat and a few southern states seem to be forerunners in actual development, a few of you might ask what happened to Bihar it is growing rapidly, so I would just like to say if you take something from 0 (Zero) to 1 (one) it is equal to infinite growth.

I read about a lot of growth that is happening in the state of MP, but why is it that it is not visible to the common man, the property prices and inflation is killing the middle class and people are actually cutting down expenses to make ends meet, but still as per the latest reports per capita income for MP has risen by about 2000 rupees, why is not visible.

Kindly comment so that I am motivated to write more.....
