In his first visit outside Delhi, after being sworn in as the Prime Minister of India. Mr. Modi, was welcomed by slogans that he would have commonly heard during his election rallies and party meeting, by naval officers in Goa.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the 44,500 tonnes Aircraft carrier to the nation and went through the complete detailing of the ship, He gave a crisp salute to the steam past, amid heavy downpour and saw 10 naval ships showcasing India's naval prowess during the program. The Naval personnel chanted slogans like "INS Vikramaditya ki Jai", "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Narendra Modi ki Jai".
The ship would be equipped with modified MIG 29's along with Sea Harriers (Rescue and search aircraft), Dornier Aircraft and Sea King Helicopters.
The acquisition of INS Vikramaditya was finalised during the previous NDA government, headed by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The carrier was commissioned in Russia last November, Mr. Modi congratulated the officers and seaman on the occasion.
Mr. Modi was accompanied by Goa Chief minister and head of naval staff during the ceremony.
